It’s that time of the week again, when we bring you up to date with college goings-on and we have some more interesting items for you.
First up this week is a huge CONGRATULATIONS to two former students Of Stow College, that attended in the 2009/10 academic year. They progressed on to Glasgow Caledonian University and achieved great success in the first year of their Opthalmics course. Johann Condy achieved best student on the course award and Nikki Miller also won a prize for her achievements. Well done to both of them and we hope they continue on their path to success.
Some great news for the Gaelic courses now. BBC ALBA are coming in on Monday 12th of September to film Ishbel Murray teaching her Gaelic class. As well as filming the class in action they also plan to interview Ishbel and maybe one of the students about the course. This is a fantastic opportunity for the college and our talented lecturers and students.
The 19th to 23rd of September is Social Media Week, this is a global event which aims to explore how local and regional societies, cultures and economies are becoming more integrated and empowered through a global network of communication. Stow plans to be involved in this event and we have guest speakers coming to the college on Thursday 22nd and the topic will be “Social Travel – How can we Disrupt and Improve Travel”. There are loads of activities and talks on over the week, in variety of venues so check out the website for more information. During the week the college is offering room facilities to anyone who is looking for venue. So if you are planning on holding a Social Media activity, but need a place to hold it give us a call.
Some good news now for students that feel they need a little bit extra help with their maths, accounts or science. The Hub is providing tutorial sessions in these subjects and have set up several sessions a week which are planned for throughout the first trimester. If you think these would be of use to you then visit our Maths Tutorials or Accounts Tutorials or Science Tutorials news pages on the website.
Finally for this week we are planning our annual Multicultural festival for first week in November. If you have any suggestions of what we could do for part of this week or would like to volunteer to help out we would love to hear from you. Just email Hilary Ramsay with your name and idea or intention to help out and we’ll get back to you.
Well that’s it for this we’ll see you back here next week.
